PIC: a picture of a father's sacrifice - in high definition

A conversation I had with Don, a couple of months back:

HE: My brother bought a new LCD TV. He says it's better for his son's eyes.

ME: Yea, that's what every father will say when he wants to get a new HDTV.

...

Yes. Yes, that is what every father would say when they want to get a new HDTV.

It's better for Seth's eyes.

Our "Speedy" DVD player died a rather "Speedy" death. We'd resurrected it once before, but decided enough is enough.

So we went out to get a new basic DVD player.

Don and David recommended Pioneer. So, in the end, did the salesman.

There were two models - one with HDMI output and one with regular ol' output. We decided on the regular one, because, after all, our 29" Sony Black Trinitron ain't the epitome of high definition clarity.

"Just out of curiosity, how much are LCD TVs going for, nowadays?" I asked.

That's how we ended up with this Toshiba.
And, because it's hi-def, I had to up the ante on the DVD player as well.

So, now, Seth can watch his educational programmes with better care of his eyes.

Us fathers are all about sacrifice.

btw, I've finally watched Terminator: Salvation. Giant robots rock in hi-def.

PIC: "Give your child a brigth future by select a best tutor!" #Malaysia #Engrish @mahyuni

When you select "a best" tutor, your child will have a brigth future.

What is brigth? It is better than bright. It is bright to the nth power.

Kindly call a best tutor today!

OH: What should we give up for Lent? #twg

"We should do something for Lent."

"Let's give up alcohol!"

"Ya, coffee is more important than alcohol, so we should give up alcohol!"

"Wait - shouldn't we give up the more important thing?"

Some silence.

And then he ups the ante.

"Alcohol is easy. You know what we should give up? Criticising people."

There are murmurs around the table. Murmurs which morph into sounds of assent.

Then she returns from the ladies'.

"Guess what we've decided to give up? You'll never guess."

She makes a few guesses, of a material and consumable nature.

"No. Criticising people."

She seems momentarily stunned, as the difficulty of that sinks in.

"Yea. Yea... We should give up complaining."

More silence.

"No, no, that's too hard, wey," he says.

There's nervous laughter all around the table as the seeming impossibility of not complaining grips us.

"Okay, we'll refrain from criticising people. That doesn't mean we can't speak the truth about institutions, like if there's bad service, for example."

And that's Lent settled.

God help us; it's a lesson in grace. Anything short of it doesn't work.
