"Icelandic frog advert makes Malaysian woman a Facebook cult hit"

A Malaysian woman, Essasa Sue, has become an accidental Facebook cult hit in Iceland after it was discovered her name was similar to a popular advertisement’s catchphrase.

This is what happens when you randomly coin a name!

"Facebook CEO's Private Photos Exposed by the New 'Open' Facebook"

Facebook's new "privacy policy" has opened up digital assets like this one to the public.
After all, don't we have the right to know how Mark Zuckerberg jams on his guitar?

My eyes.

Incidentally, I set most of my stuff to be available to "Everyone". Which now means "Everyone on the internet". Where before, "Everyone" meant "Everyone on Facebook."

Personally, I feel that this definition of "Everyone" is more accurate. Plus, I'm a bit of a narcissistic exhibitionist.

(But what blogger isn't?)

Would you create a dedicated TV channel for a TV commercial? #socialmedia

BLUE: Brand Websites
RED: Social Networks

What does this mean? Websites are media. In TV language, Facebook and Twitter are like huge networks with thousands of channels featuring hundreds of programmes tailor-made by people who share your interests.

Brand websites are like individual channels sponsored by one advertiser broadcasting a programme you may or may not like. (In other words, take it or leave it.)

On a social network, you create the content together with your like-minded social circle. You cook what you like to eat.

On a brand website, you eat what they serve. If you don't like it, you don't go there. If your tastes change, you leave.

No one would create a new TV channel just to broadcast a new TV commercial. Why create a new website?

That's an extreme example and brand websites have their place, but the (logical) trend is a shift toward social media. Because people always gravitate toward more freedom of choice, not less.

Post Once, Notify Five Times (Or, How to Lose Friends and Irritate People)

Facebook, Inc.

Image via Wikipedia

Here's how I posted once and notified you five times. ("You", being my Faithful Facebook Friends.)

I posted awhile back that you could post once to posterous.com, and it would autopost for you to basically, just about, everywhere.

Well, the magic of automation is how I managed to send you five notices about my post on 6 reasons why I bought an iPhone 3G.
(If it had sent you six notifications, at least that would have been poetic.)

How to Post Once and Notify Five Times:

Step 1: Post to posterous.com via email
Step 2:

  1. posterous.com autoposts to passionista.net autoposts to FriendFeed autoposts to Facebook Profile
  2. posterous.com autoposts to passionista.net autoposts to Facebook Notes autoposts to Facebook Profile
  3. posterous.com autoposts to Twitter autoposts to FriendFeed autoposts to Facebook Profile
  4. posterous.com autoposts to Twitter autoposts to Facebook Profile
  5. posterous.com autoposts to Facebook Profile

Fun! Fun fun fun fun fun!

All right, all right...
I've deactivated all but one autopost path to my Facebook Profile.
This post should only appear once. Should. Consider this a beta test.

Why I'm not entirely confident, is that when I went to investigate The Case of the Many Notifications, I found that my FriendFeed app was actually set not to notify my Facebook Profile. Hmm...
Also, I had a whole slew of Facebook apps spontaneously change to SpeedDate when the developer of those apps decided that SpeedDate was the way to go profit.
Notifications to stop sending me email were ignored.

Actually, my stop notices to the many SpeedDate apps in my Facebook profile are still there.
But new notices to continue sending email showed up.
Curiouser and curiouser.
Spammier and spammier.

I wrote to Facebook about this but got no response.
So I gave up and just used the Spam button in Gmail to deal with the myriad SpeedDate emails.

I'm a bit cheesed off with Facebook apps - can you tell?
How has your Facebook day been?
